Dr. Joel Garmon has been in practice with Louisville Surgical Associates for over 20 years. A native of Louisville, he attended Indiana University, Bloomington graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1981. He returned home to attend the University of Louisville School of Medicine graduating with honors and AOA. Dr. Garmon completed his surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati where he received the Outstanding Teaching Award and was a contributor and editor of the famed Mont Reid Surgical Handbook. Dr. Garmon is board certified in general surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, as well as the Louisville Surgical Society and the Kentucky and Jefferson County Medical societies. He has a special interest in breast care and treatment focusing on minimally invasive techniques and breast conservation therapy. He was the first in the Louisville area to place a breast radiation balloon catheter and was instrumental in developing the Saints Mary and Elizabeth Women’s Center.
